What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive hypnotherapy draws from different therapeutic approaches such as Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), positive psychology, traditional hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) moulding together the best cutting edge therapeutic techniques together which are then applied to the needs of the individual.
All behaviour has a positive intention
In Cognitive Hypnotherapy, we believe that all behaviour has a positive intention. The unconscious mind has the important job of 'keeping you safe' which means when it comes to understanding the stress response, we sometimes behave in ways that aren't conducive to our mental and emotional wellbeing.
An example of this might be as a child, being told off by a parental figure for speaking 'out of turn' when they thought it was OK to express themselves honestly. That could then be mistakenly perceived as 'I'm not worthy and valued' and affects their confidence and self-esteem as an adult which in turn, escalates social anxiety.
All they want to do is express themselves honestly but something (the memory of that stored experience in their unconscious mind) is holding them back in case the same thing happens again. As far as the unconscious mind is concerned, being 'safe' in protection is more important for their survival in future, similar situations. The problem is it creates a feeling of being stuck and unhappy because they feel unable to express what they want to in social situations.
Due to the beliefs that the individual has stored on that level from childhood, they unconsciously attract situations that reinforce those exact beliefs. So, they end up in more of the same situations they don't want. (Basically, it's the law of attraction at work). We are essentially what we think and believe about ourselves to be true.
That's where cognitive hypnotherapy comes in! Cognitive Hypnotherapy works to identify, reframe and release the limiting belief which is keeping us in protection rather than growth.
Our unconscious mind is constantly busy processing millions of pieces of information every second and sometimes the unconscious mind can make a mistake in the processing of certain information, especially when we are young in an attempt to protect us from what it sees as potentially harmful. This has the effect of driving us towards/pushing us away from certain situations based on these calculations. If our behaviour is unconsciously driven due to pre-conditioned responses, then we may find ourselves reacting to specific events in our lives that do not serve our wellbeing and happiness.
Trance is an everyday occurrence
Contrary to popular belief, hypnotherapy is not about losing control. At no point do you ever lose the ability to control your reactions. You may be familiar with something called a 'trance' which is a mental state we are all capable of drifting in and out of every day (think of day dreaming whilst driving a car).
Who was driving the car when you were lost in thought?
This would largely be to do with the activities of our unconscious mind. When we have practiced a certain behaviour long enough, it becomes an automatic response that resides in the unconscious part of the mind. Your attention has been able to go elsewhere as you have been driving because you know (or your unconscious mind knows) exactly what to do in order to get you home.

We have had great results published in the Mental Health Review Journal 2015 regarding a pilot study that was carried out regarding the benefits of cognitive hypnotherapy and 71 percent of people suffering from anxiety or depression reported themselves recovered after an average of 6 QCH sessions. This is compared to 42 percent of people using CBT and other talking therapies using the same outcome measures.

It is not advisable to seek hypnotherapy if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, are feeling severely depressed, have a personality disorder, schizophrenia, have Bipolar disorder, if you have a psychosis or have epilepsy.
Also, if you are receiving therapy elsewhere, you must finish the course of treatment before beginning cognitive hypnotherapy sessions with me.
