Please feel free to have a read through my blog. I hope the articles have some useful tips for you. I write on a range of issues from energy healing, meditation and mindfulness, how to overcome the effects of narcissistic abuse and how to heal from OCD anxiety.

Social media, Narcissus and the Green-Eyed Monster!

Tuesday 29th March 2022

Social media is a prevalent and (I would say, a daily intrusive!) part of our lives whether we like it or not. So much of our lives is online and easy to share with the entire world in just one click. I was thinking about the story of Narcissus today and how we have traded true and authentic self-love for validation and need. We need to feel approved of by society and we need to feel validated. We need to feel wanted and useful and we need to feel like other people want to be us. But how genuine is this actual need? That is the monster that social media has created - and it is one which is of…

Hyper-responsibility and OCD anxiety

Friday 25th March 2022

Sometimes OCD can have it roots in hyper-responsibility for events that happen. So much of the fear around the uncertainty of OCD anxiety is tied up between guilt and feeling responsible if something goes wrong. The lack of control that OCD sufferers feel can be so overwhelming that performing compulsions can provide massive relief - but this is only temporary and it comes at a massive cost as performing compulsions only serves to ingrain the anxiety more and encourage the intrusive thoughts to pop in more often than not. So how do we deal with feeling overly responsible? Know that we cannot control things no matter how hard we try We can only do our best in life and sometimes that still isn't…

Mistakes are not what they seem…

Friday 4th March 2022

It can be very hard not to beat ourselves up for making mistakes sometimes. It can feel awful! If we make a mistake, sometimes it can feel like the end of the world - I always used to be very hard on myself if I made a mistake which I felt I shouldn't have. I am a reforming perfectionist and I used to feel crushed if I made even the slightest mistake. But what if there was no such thing as a mistake? What if there was just another opportunity to learn and become even better? To me, making a mistake was who I was - someone who didn't have value and who was worthless if I didn't get it right.…

The basics of meditation

Friday 18th February 2022

The key to meditation if you are a beginner is to simply be aware and to observe your thoughts. It may be challenging at the start when you being to meditate because you may feel as though your thoughts are racing the more you try to prevent them from coming in. If we try to deliberately prevent our thoughts from coming into our mind, we actually create more tension within our body. We end up creating resistance and what that does is reinforce the persistence of the thoughts. Just accepting what is there, is the way to begin to meditate. Going with the flow Sometimes the harder we try, the more we struggle. 'Don't try harder, try softer.' If we take the gentle approach…

OCD is the symptom - but in relation to what?

Friday 4th February 2022

Everyone arrives at their particular problem in their own unique way. OCD is something that can be managed very effectively and the work I do with clients helps them to find the solution that works for them. The obsessive thoughts that anxiety creates can feel like you are playing a music track that you don't like on a continual repeat loop - a cycle that you want to stop but you just can't seem to find the way to get out of it. Nothing seems to work and the OCD anxiety grip just gets tighter - why? Because we are relying on compulsions rather than ourselves to be the foundation of our feelings of security. Cognitive hypnotherapy honours each person…

How to deal with change in difficult times.

Saturday 15th January 2022

The pandemic has literally turned our lives upside down. 2021 has been a year of constant change, upheavals and flux and I have never been happier to leave a year behind me! Transitions can be hard and just the thought of change used make me feel incredibly drained and tired so much so that I didn't even want to try at all. 2021 was a difficult year for so many people, myself included but the struggle I went through helped me to launch a career which I really love and care about. If I had stayed in my comfort zone (which was beyond tempting!) none of this would be happening now. Trusting that everything will work out for the…

How to meditate...even with those pesky thoughts!

Sunday 9th January 2022

We've all been there. We close our eyes for a few minutes to try and still the mind only to find ourselves being bombarded with every thought under the sun from wondering what to have for tea to something you said to someone a decade ago that still makes you cringe. How can you meditate with so much mental noise rampaging in the background? It seems the harder you try to block it out, the worse it gets. When we resist our thoughts, we actually make them stronger and louder! It's a real catch 22. The trick is to accept whatever arises in the moment without judegment. Just observe your thoughts. A good way is to pretend you are watching a film at…

When narcissists come back....

Sunday 2nd January 2022

After a prolonged period of absence from your life, there is usually a very good chance that they will come back hoovering at some point. This is inevitable. Narcissists like to keep old supply in the background of their life in order to keep control of what they may see as a potentially volatile situation if they have lost control over you and the the events surrounding them. This will be due to the fact that you saw through their fragile facade only to be met with the lies they told you over and over again and walked away - a HUGE threat to their ego and crazy narrative. If they cheated on you and had numerous supply while they were…

Why we need to remember to work with what is...

Friday 19th November 2021

Meet yourself where you are currently at in order to heal and take the next step. When we work with what comes up, we are able to heal at our own pace. We don't have to have it figured out all at once. Healing and growth happens when it happens. It isn't something that can be rushed. Getting frustrated with ourselves is only going to make the entire process harder. When we feel we 'should be' doing better than we currently are, we are denying the reality of the present moment. We can only work from the place we are in currently and from there, we can build on that foundation. Sometimes it may feel like you are not making a…

How to overcome OCD anxiety by surrendering

Friday 5th November 2021

When it comes to healing from OCD anxiety, becoming comfortable with uncertainty is one of the keys to overcoming it. We cannot control outcomes depending on whether or not we perform compulsions in relation to the obsessions we have. Uncertainty is the only truth we have in this life. Over the years, I have come to realise that uncertainty can be our ally. I challenge you to think about what uncertainty means to you - is there anything you like about it or are attracted to within it? Uncertainty can be exciting and can also create a feeling of embarking on an adventure each day. Within uncertainty, there are many possibilities to be found and we may have multiple options and…

The importance of the therapeutic space

Friday 5th November 2021

The one question that is significant for many of us is how to feel more like ourselves again and able to cope after perhaps a period of prolonged stress and anxiety, a personal loss or an ongoing health issue.  We always see advertisements and posts on social media which say something along the lines of: 'Be who you truly are!' 'Live your best life!' 'Find your authentic self!' And my personal favourite -  'Transform your life in just 3 days!' (or some other insurmountable quick time - 30 minutes maybe!) I feel tired just reading these. This puts me off and actually makes me feel like not doing anything as it sounds too intense. The last thing we want to feel when we go to a therapist…

Living in Balance

Friday 5th November 2021

When we live in balance, we are living in harmony with ourselves which means, supporting our current needs.  There are some days I get up, make a coffee, look at my to-do list and feel like I'd rather get back under the covers again. I would imagine there are quite a few people who have had that feeling! Sometimes, we just don't feel 'in the mood.' That feeling isn't a problem in itself but we have to do things we don't necessarily feel we want to do.  That is the reality we have to accept in order to achieve our goals. Sometimes we have to be disciplined, especially when we don't feel like it.  Working with our nose to the grindstone is equally unhealthy…
